Rouen and the Seine valley were for the artists of the impressionist movement as well as many others a sort of vast natural workshop and an endless source of inspiration.
Here along the river the special blend of light and the colours encouraged generations of artists to reach for their brushes and paint the green and fertile meadows, the picturesque tow paths and villages like La Bouille or Sahurs not forgetting the river itself and of course the beautiful city of Rouen all of which have been immortalised in the works of the impressionist movement.
The familiar places that we see in their works are as enchanting today as they were when they first inspired Monet, Gauguin , Sisley, and Pisarro who were all particularly fond of these magnificent typical Normandy landscapes and vistas.
